It’s maddening at times.
The twin flame journey is full of paradoxes. What’s a paradox? It’s when two contradictory axioms are true at the same time. Two polarities can somehow coexist in parallel. Two experiences are opposites, and yet, they are one. Parts of the twin flame journey seem logically impossible and absurd — this is what drives you crazy.
In this article, I list several examples of twin flame paradoxes. Maybe the consideration of these concepts will help you reflect and find that, somehow, paradoxes can be reconciled.
1. Two Worlds at Once
On the twin flame journey, you seem to exist in two worlds: you’re living a mundane life in physical reality, but there’s a whole other story going on in the spiritual plane of existence. These two realities don’t seem to be reconcilable.
Separation is an illusion. You’re together all the time, and yet, you’re not. You perceive with your senses a story of separation, but your heart knows there’s a deep connection.
In addition, you are trying to go forward day-to-day with your previous existence, which may have been centered around surface-level concerns. But at the same time, you’re evolving at a rapid rate, and your vibration just doesn’t seem aligned with the life you’ve been living until now.
It seems like two life paths are unfolding that have nothing to do with each other. How can both be true? How are they both real at the same time? And yet, they are.
2. External Love vs. Self-Love
Many people on the twin flame journey get hung up on the person, trying to find a way to be with them. But the twin flame journey has two equal aspects: the inner experience of love and the outer one. (This relates to the “two worlds” I mentioned above: you’re living a spiritual life alongside the physical one.)
Though you may seek to be in a relationship with your twin flame on Earth, in the spiritual realm, all that matters is understanding the true meaning of love. That doesn’t require external sources of love in order to happen.
Knowing divine love means knowing self-love. But in the physical realm, you may seek love and validation from the other person — why wouldn’t you? It’s a paradox because the inability to gain that external love from your twin flame often pushes you to find self-love from within — after you’ve exhausted all other avenues.
This is an inner awakening of love caused by an outer event. That’s a paradox. Why do we need to experience external love to provide us with a path to self-love?
3. Not Meant to End Up Together
It’s a crushing paradox, but it’s reality: you may not be destined to “end up” with this person — in other words, you may never experience a loving relationship with them, and/or it may not last for the rest of your life. Why would the universe give you such an incredible taste of pure, unconditional love with your twin flame if it didn’t want you to be with them?
It’s cruel irony. But it is the truth: a relationship with them may not be your destiny. Why? Because often, that wouldn’t allow you to experience soul growth.
This paradox haunts the strongest of us. It seems like the universe would find nicer ways for us to learn about love. But when you see it from a spiritual perspective, you know that accepting this difficult truth is the only way.
4. You Heal to Not Need Anyone
For many, the end goal of the healing on this twin flame journey is to heal. Healing, in this case, means getting to a place where you don’t need anyone to feel fulfilled. You feel complete on your own. You have met a person who you feel an inexplicable pull toward, who has awakened something in you that longs for that self-love and inner peace.
It becomes a lonely path, paradoxically caused by finding the one person who truly makes you feel less alone in the universe. But then you may start to find a way to feel whole, despite the solitude.
Paradoxically, when this actually happens, it somehow magnetizes this person back into your life. I’m not saying this happens every time. But when it does, the timing of it is uncanny. The irony of the universe can be amazing sometimes.
5. Surrender
The idea of “surrender’is itself a paradox. It’s ironic to seek to release control because the act of seeking this release is itself a controlled choice. On the twin flame journey, surrender is a blurry concept — do you surrender to the journey or to your feelings? It’s not always clear what’s needed.
A lot of my clients want to be perfect on this journey — they want to heal the right way. They want to surrender better than anyone else has ever surrendered. But they’re also angry at the universe for sending them constant signs about this person. It’s like when they finally let go, the reminders of their twin flame increase to maddening levels.
The more they let go of the relationship, the more signs appear. The universe ramps up the insanity. It’s not easy to surrender under such circumstances. So, the paradox of surrender is particularly hard to swallow on this path.
6. Both Runner and Chaser at Once
In my twin flame journey, I had an epiphany. I realized that I had been unable to break down some of the walls that guarded my heart — the major one being unworthiness. I finally understood that I was unable to visualize myself being in a loving relationship with my twin flame because it scared me. I was afraid of it ending right away, or something bad happening, or finding out that it was an illusion.
So, I worked on that limiting belief. And I began to understand that I was the runner in a certain sense. Energetically, I was running away from the thing I thought I was chasing. It is a paradox that you may only understand if you’re on a twin flame journey. I both wanted it and didn’t want it at the same time.
7. One Soul, Yet Individuals
Your twin flame is you. Yet, you are also an individual, separate from them. It makes no sense. This is the paradox that always shatters me.
This experience has made me truly see what oneness means — but I also understand why we have to be individuals experiencing human life. To feel that you’re part of a whole but knowing that you need to make your own path in life is a beautiful balancing act.
8. It’s a Miracle, But They Run Away
Why would anyone run away from a miracle? On the twin flame journey, this is one of the main questions you’ll be asking. It makes zero sense. But there’s a strange fear of love that is triggered in some people on this journey.
They don’t want to accept blessings — they don’t want to face themselves or their divinity. They want to stay asleep. So, they opt to miss out on miracles so they can stay in their safe, mundane world. They choose to be with people who don’t awaken them to endless possibilities.
Here’s a video about these paradoxes that I filmed recently:
