If you’re conscious, you need to be stronger.
When I hit rock bottom and feel the loss of interest starting to overcome me, I wish I weren’t here anymore. My internal loudspeaker is then taken over by a voice from my darkness. It tells me to give up, and that life isn’t really worth living. I tell this voice, “I wish I could just give up like everyone else, but unfortunately, I don’t have that luxury. I have to get myself together and press on.”
I’m an important being of change on this planet, and I don’t get to waste a minute of my time being negative. If you’re a healer and catalyst for humanity, you don’t get to be eaten alive by your darkness, either! When we’re conscious, we don’t have the luxury of depression. Our mental powers are too important to allow them to succumb to the dark side.
Depression Is a Choice
I say this phrase almost every time depression hits me: “Unfortunately, I don’t get to be depressed.” The word unfortunately makes me chuckle every time. It’s so silly to be disappointed that I can’t be depressed. I begin a whole inner dialogue with myself: “Here I am, feeling despair. And I will fight to have the privilege to do so!” The darkness replies and asks me to join it in lifelong misery.
It asks me to choose sadness. It wants me to use my freewill to be unhappy, when I could also have chosen happiness. This is truly madness! I know that nobody with any kind of conscious awareness would ever go down such a path.
The Privilege of Depression
But the ego is strong, and for some reason, it will choose depression over joy if I let it stay in control. It’s the part of me fighting to retain the “privilege of depression”. The privilege! How is it a privilege to allow myself to fade away into nothingness, having achieved nothing with the precious experience I have in this lifetime?
You are here for a reason. I don’t know the purpose of everyone’s lives, but I can guarantee you that none of us has a purpose rooted in misery. There’s just no way you’re meant to be here to suffer. Therefore — logically — the suffering must be here to help you become something better.
The Luxury of Mental Freedom
So, don’t give in to the sadness. Don’t let despair eat you alive. Fight back! Us conscious souls don’t have the “luxury” that others have to just waste time wallowing in depression. And it’s not a luxury at all. Mental freedom is of monumental importance. Freeing yourself from the negativity that your ego-mind produces is the best thing you can do with your time alive.
When you master the power of positive thinking, turning your thoughts toward joy, and keeping hope even when things seem hopeless, then you’ve found true inner luxury. Don’t settle for anything less.
A difficult inner life isn’t what anyone wants. The real magic of this reality lies in your ability to alchemize thoughts.
