Twin Flame Platonic Relationships Don't Always Work Out, Either

Proving that the romantic aspect isn’t the linchpin of the relationship.

Many of my clients who are entangled in confusing romantic relationships with their twin flames can’t understand how a platonic twin flame relationship can happen. However, I know that many of them also think it could be an easier path if they could “just be friends” with their twin flames. I am here to tell you that it may not be easier, because ironically, the platonic twin flames often end up with problems relating to intensity — the same problem that romantic twin flames have. It’s clear that the soul connection is all that really matters, and that can show up romantically or platonically.

Cosmic Best Friends

In many of the twin flame stories I’ve heard, there is a strong sense of friendship. I call my twin flame my “cosmic best friend,” and I think that embodies what many others feel about this twin flame relationship. I’ve also heard one of my clients call it a “genderless love”. Some twin flames were never romantically involved, but became very close friends. Others who start romantically come to value the platonic aspects of their relationship over time— the parts that don’t rely on sexual or romantic attraction.

Love, in its true form, doesn’t need to be about romance. It’s a deep connection with another soul.

The twin flame journey leads us to understand ourselves and how love works. Most of us on this journey feel a deep level of comfort with this person — your twin flame truly understands you. You can have a connection like this that isn’t romantic, right? There is no need for an attraction. The twin flame journey has taught me that the feeling of eternal love is what is truly important. It’s the essential bit.

Transcendental Love

The love endures beyond this lifetime and in the higher realms — the other levels of our existence. The romantic or sexual aspects only exist within a human lifetime, and they fade when life is over. The feelings and connections you bring with you into the life after death are something above and beyond human-level lust, romance, and a need for “happily ever after”.

I have learned this the hard way because my twin flame died. I could no longer pursue a romantic connection with him. It became purely spiritual. As time passed, I began to see him as a genderless spirit, having incarnated with me in a hundred different ways, and the physical form wasn’t important. I view him now as a guide in spirit instead of a man whom I am attracted to.

Others experience this platonic connection in different ways. What’s interesting is that whether or not a romantic connection is involved, the intensity and insanity are still there. The romance isn’t the important part of the journey. The soul-level attraction is what will get you to the next level in your spiritual development. If the universe can do that without romance involved, it will do so.

Platonic Problems of Intensity

Although several of my clients have platonic relationships with their twin flames, it can still become messy. There are people who have become so entangled with their twin flame friendships that it causes discord in their marriage. There can still be a strange jealousy and unexpected third-party dynamics, even when there’s no sexual or romantic pull. Your spouse can sense the seriousness and intensity of the relationship.

The twin flame relationship, even a platonic one, can also be a lot for you to handle mentally. The obsession may overcome you, as well as the confusion about what you’re facing. There is still a great transformation happening, and even without a romantic connection, you may still find yourself in periods of separation or a dark night of the soul.

The universe knew what it was doing when it set you up with a platonic twin flame — it may just give you the space you needed to focus mainly on the spiritual awakening that’s going on.

Those experiencing these confusing dynamics in a platonic twin flame relationship seem to have heightened spiritual experiences. They can also have their heart broken just as easily as the rest of us. The universe allows no accidents, and when you’ve met your twin flame in a platonic situation, you know that it’s for a good reason. You were meant to face this journey in a weirder situation than most people need to — likely for your highest and best possible soul growth.
