How to Start Meditating When Your Life is Chaos

When the world affords you little peace, here is how to seize the moments you have.

Do you feel like life moves too fast for you to dream of starting a meditation practice? One of the main reasons people abandon their regular meditation practice is because they think they don’t have time. I’m a wellness coach and a single mom of a five-year-old, so I feel uniquely qualified to give you the knowledge you need to start a meditation practice amid chaos — because it seems like chaos is all there is in your life. I want to give you some methods to let you know how to start meditating because meditation will benefit your life deeply.

I will give you a few tips here on how to start meditating that may not fit in with the idea of meditation that you have come to know. I do this because I want to give you a new perspective and some new hope for finding focus, meaning, and pervasive love in your life. Meditation should be for everyone. Just keep in mind while reading this that you have limitless potential, and your mind can be free — it just takes a new habit of pausing and finding the value in every part of life.

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It is a way of entering into the quiet that is already there — buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.”

Deepak Chopra

Take Advantage of Any Moment You Have

However short and however loud, any moment when you can tap into the beautiful, endless frequency of the energy around you is going to benefit you. I lately have been meditating in the bathtub, in bed, and in my parked car when she is napping. When my daughter is home with me, there is no chance for a 1-hour uninterrupted meditation session, as much as I’d love that. But I’ve come to find that I don’t need it.

You don’t need to meditate for one hour or in lotus position. You can be in the bathtub, bed, or a parked car.

Just stop your busy mind for a moment — maybe you can right now? Close your eyes, take a deep, juicy breath through your nose and then let it out, and guide your energy to merge with the energy around you. Put your ego out, and take the universe in. With your breath, this cycle of in-and-out becomes love.

When you practice this regularly, that love begins to take over your body and mind, and you will enjoy more happiness. Space will be made. The worries, trauma, and stress will subside, receding from that space, making way for healing. You will feel whole.

Realize that Lifeforce is All Around You

There is subtle energy all around you. If you focus on the part you play in the great ecosystem of life and the universe, you will feel the benefits of fleeting meditation. Even if you just have ten seconds to take it in, that can be enough.

Just close your eyes and think about the effects of your choices, actions, and thoughts on things and people around you. Feel the movements of the world, and how their effects change you. You will find your place in the intricate, woven tapestry of all lifeforce.

With this knowledge of the role you play, you will feel your purpose in this life. You’ll feel grounded and ready to live in a way that benefits the greater whole. Disconnection can be our greatest downfall, and it plagues many of us. Lead the way for yourself and those around you to find connection and meaning in all parts of our lives.

When It’s Loud, Find the Flow in the Sound

One day my daughter was lying on the floor having a tantrum, screaming at the top of her lungs. She was demanding I give her some chocolate or something. I could have lost my mind at that moment, yelling back at her or giving up whatever I was trying to do right then. Instead, I closed my eyes and breathed in the world around me.

I suddenly found myself floating on the frequency of her shrill voice. After all, it was as real as any other sound in this world — as real as a gentle chime. Sounds are the frequency of energy, just like the energy from our hearts and the waves on the ocean. Even a five-year-old’s screams can give us the connection to the subtle, peaceful existence that lies just beyond the surface of our sense perceptions.

I just surrendered to it, allowing it to guide my focus. I completely relaxed and let go of the idea that the screams were meant to rile me up. I could finally find peace amid the chaos.

Now You Have the Tools to Take it Further

You have the power to tune into total peace and freedom from your worries and thoughts at any time. It just takes some changes in your habits and the belief that you can use your mind to liberate you at even the most chaotic moments. Stress and fear can easily take us over when we aren’t connected to our greater purpose. Meditation, even in ways that aren’t widely taught, can bring us back to that vital connection. Once you know how to start meditating, you will be able to open a new chapter in your life.

You deserve love. You deserve hope. You deserve to be free from the worries that follow you. Meditation can make every aspect of you shine brightly.

I often write about meditation, and if you liked this piece, you might like a post I wrote a while ago about steps to begin a meditation practice to further your knowledge of how to start meditating. I want to make meditation accessible for everyone because it has done me a lot of good. It has changed the course of my life. Let me bring that joy to you!
