My Experiences in Meditation

As my eyes close and I look for the delicate and subtle equilibrium inside, things happen to my perceived environment. Sometimes I spin in both directions at the same time and sometimes I feel like my body is a stone. Total love and understanding seep in, multiplying themselves for as long as I can surrender my mind. With no boundaries in my mind, I can connect with all of existence and know things that I wouldn’t normally know under the constraints of my day-to-day mind. My experiences in meditation have changed my world.

I sometimes go through portals that resemble long tunnels at high speeds. I’m flying. I’m light as a feather and my mind expands with no end.

Often, I find myself falling into a state of complete balance, indulging in the present moment with perfect harmony — a mental state where I want nothing and I am more than content to simply be.

Where do I go in meditation? Wherever it is, it’s accessible within me, through me — not outside me. I’m somewhere else.

What happens is this: I know what the silence and balance within feels like so I slip into it. I have learned the behavior of my own elusive mind and I know how to find the bliss that’s always lurking there just beyond my thoughts. I latch onto the peace. I align with the bliss.

Frequencies and Disturbances

Our minds have frequencies that are manifested by our thoughts. Ripples through time and space, often they are disturbances. Thoughts change and mold the vibrational qualities into what they are. It seems like we can’t control this frequency at first, but the more we meditate, the more obvious it is that we can actually design the topography of our own minds. With intention and vigilance, anything is possible.

When the disturbances settle, the clarity comes. The ripples calm. The vibrations subside.

Choosing the Mental Freedom

Meditation helps me transcend my physical existence. The experiences in meditation lift me out of my problems and worries for a short time so I can see life clearly. The more I do it, the more I keep awareness during the rest of my day that this isn’t really me and I am not attached to my problems unless I choose it. The non-attachment is the bliss.

You see, when we get wrapped up in our lives, we are entangled. We are trapped. It’s a prison of our own making.

Meditation takes me to a place that’s beyond this three-dimensional world (four dimensions if you count time, which is illusory) and it reminds me that I am a soul. I am not an Emily, at my core. My essential self is beyond this body and this identity — it’s eternal. It is full of love and joy just for existing in this present moment.

Time and Space Aren’t Real

Time falls away in meditation because time is only part of our human experience. It helps us live on Earth. It gives our lives struggles and meaning that we couldn’t get without the separation of perceived moments. Time helps us learn and grow. The soul craves this experience. But when we meditate, we can transcend time and see that the present moment is all there ever was.

Space has less meaning and control over me in meditation. I no longer identify with the dimensions and sensations of my physical body. I no longer feel the spatial separation between myself and my environment. The couch I am sitting on is me. The air is me. The sky, moon, stars, and mountains are all me. They’re not even parts of me — “parts” is a spatial concept. There are no parts. There is just one. You are everything.

If you meditate regularly and let it become part of your reality, you’ll also have experiences in meditation that expand within you the juicy oneness that pervades all things.
