We all have an inner voice. Most of us don’t listen to it. We turn away or we don’t trust it. How can we trust something that is telling us information from inside ourselves? We’re programmed only to trust messages that come from outside us. If we have an idea out of nowhere that tells us the best course of action without any logical reason for it, our learned reaction is to ignore it. Any insight we gain from our inner wisdom is usually quickly disregarded.

That little voice that’s telling you something with no rationale behind it is called your intuition. Learning to be in touch with it will change your life. Unfortunately, it’s so hard to do for most people because it requires a huge amount of trust and belief in the inner self.

However, when you finally learn the skill of intuition-listening, you will have an internal compass for the rest of your life. When you’re facing a difficult situation, you will find calm and grounding because you’ll know things. Other people may not understand that knowledge, but you will have the ability to see past what’s in front of your eyes and find the truth. You’ll have the ability to gain wisdom that comes from beyond the senses.

Here’s my advice on how to learn to listen to your intuition.

Shut Off External Stimuli

Meditation is key. Whatever form of meditation speaks to you — do that more. You have to shut off your senses that are constantly getting stimuli from your surroundings and look within. In particular, your eyes and ears are on overdrive constantly. Give them a rest!

You rest when you’re sleeping, but to develop waking intuition, you must rest in awareness.

Close your eyes and sit in a quiet place. Just sit. Do nothing. That’s it.

Of course, there are more methods you can try in meditation to look within. I teach meditation using a mantra to focus the mind. Some people like soothing music. Others utilize the life force in the breath. Personally, I like to just sit and let my mind settle further and further.

Whichever way suits you best, just do it more. Don’t let anyone tell you the best way to meditate, because that’s the point of this exercise — your intuition knows best. You must stop giving so much credence to everything you hear from others. For prescriptions and answers, your inner voice should be the strongest.

Believe and Trust

You must believe that you can hear your intuition. This may sound silly, but many people don’t think there’s wisdom that can be gained from within themselves.

Meditation will only go so far. You must set an intention before meditating — and preferably, at the start of each new day — that you will hear messages from within you.

Trust is a huge part of this process. When you finally hear the messages loud and clear, some of them will sound weird. Many will go against all logic. You might seem crazy to other people for following some of this inner advice. However, you have to just go with it. You have to trust that it’s right.

The more you do it, the more you’ll learn — sometimes, the hard way — that your inner voice is always right. Hearing it clearly is important. Sometimes the message doesn’t come through with total clarity. But when it does, you have to trust it.

When you go against your inner feelings, take note of whether that decision had a good outcome for you. Likely, you’ll find that against all rationality, when you don’t follow the directions of your inner feelings, unforeseen calamities occur. You will learn that trusting is key.

Let Go and Receive

Surrendering is very important. If you’re still struggling to hear intuitive messages, you have to practice letting go. Non-attachment. Flow.

Let your mind be free. Wait for answers.

When you are thinking, your mind is busy. It’s noisy! This isn’t the right mental environment to notice intuitive messages. They’ll be mixed in with everything else — all your anxieties, worries, fears, and expectations. So, you have to surrender those in order to hear the truth. Let them drift away out into the universe.

Your truth is in you. It just needs to be heard in a calm environment.

Stop expecting what you will hear. Stop wanting to hear a certain message. Just sit in awareness and let go of everything. You might ask yourself questions like, “Who am I?” and “What is my purpose?” and then just listen for the answers. Surrender to whatever message naturally arises in you. Don’t resist whatever comes.

You’ll be shocked at what you hear sometimes. I still am, and I’ve been doing this for a while.

You’re Psychic Now!

Okay, maybe you’re not exactly a full-blown psychic yet, but this is how it begins. If you’re reading this article, and you’ve made it this far, I would be willing to bet that you could easily be a highly intuitive person in your life if you choose that path for yourself — or if it chooses you.

So, ask your intuition, if you dare — am I meant to be helping people with my intuitive abilities?

Let me know what answers you get.
