Life comes with many struggles, but the greatest one is in controlling your own mind. You create your own prison if you allow your mental life to do whatever it wants. Only you can control what’s going on in there — no one else is to blame if you’re experiencing anxiety and stress. Your fears are yours to conquer or to collapse under. It’s your choice. Luckily, I have a solution for you should you choose to have mental freedom.

It’s not easy to achieve a peaceful mind that’s free of worry. The outside world is constantly working to create objects of fear. If you aren’t vigilant, you can easily develop chronic anxiety. The world is just a very difficult place to live in. Earth is a heavy layer of consciousness. Most people just give up and stop even trying to solve their inner problems. Instead, they choose to focus on problems outside themselves.

But I have a technique that will help you make your mind a more pleasant and blissful place to live. You don’t have to be like everybody else. You don’t have to live in misery. Anxiety is awful but you have the ability to move away from it by redirecting your thoughts. Let me explain.

Redirect the Thoughts

In meditation, we learn how the mind really works. From inner experience, we can begin to see what thoughts are doing to us, that they aren’t attached to us, and that we don’t really know where they come from. Thoughts can be observed instead of participated in.

This means that anxious thoughts can be analyzed. They don’t have to become part of us. In meditation, we can decide what’s “on our minds” by choosing different thoughts.

After all, if you have anxious thoughts but you didn’t want them, then you’re not really in control, are you? Your mind controls you instead of the other way around. But we don’t want this — we want to discipline our minds to behave in more pleasant ways.

The mind naturally wanders places. But in meditation, we want the mind to come back to a point of focus and clear itself of noise. The coolest part is that once we’ve practiced this enough, it becomes second nature — even in day-to-day waking life.

Who knew that controlling your own mind could be so easy?!

Mantra Meditation: Using an Object of Focus

I teach mantra meditation — a style that uses a focus of attention. It’s a tool that helps you redirect your thoughts every time they go somewhere you don’t want them. You let go of that train of thought and come back to the mantra.

Mantra meditation can be powerful. And it’s so simple. You just repeat the mantra over and over — in my course, we do it silently in our minds — and it serves as a tool for focusing the mind. It is a point of awareness. When you start to think about paying bills, cooking dinner, failed relationships, or anything else that causes you anxiety, you just bring your mind back to the mantra. Focus on that and let go of the other thoughts.

It’s easy to get attached to anxious thoughts. They start to control your life if you’re not careful. But with mantra meditation, it becomes clear that you never had to hang onto those thoughts — they weren’t doing anything for you. All you needed was to redirect them to a point of focus that doesn’t stress you.

I have even seen how a mantra can be replaced with something else — such as a fantasy or a good memory. I am currently obsessed with the Country Bears Jamboree at Disney World (and Disneyland). When I start to worry about something, I instead focus on the bears. They make me laugh and take me out of this reality for a minute. Then I forget why I was worried.

This method works, and it’s transformational.

Learn to Meditate By Starting Now

You can make a life for yourself that is stress-free and lovely. But it’s up to you. No one else can clear your mind of anxiety. You and only you have the power to do this. When you finally realize that all your problems stem from a mind that lets itself worry and get frazzled, and that this mind is totally under your control, things totally change.

It happened for me and it can happen to you.

The thing is, you have to choose happiness. You have to choose to meditate. You have to fully own the fact that your mind is your own responsibility.
