What is enlightenment and why does it matter?
I have trolls. I have hecklers. I love them dearly.
I don’t think I’ve ever written a post on Medium saying that I am enlightened, yet almost every time I write something with the word “enlightenment” in it somewhere, eventually I get a response from someone who wants to let me know that I am not enlightened. I am not sure if they simply did not read the entire piece or if they sense that I think I am enlightened so they needed to get that off their chest to bring me back down to a humbler level, but it does make me giggle each and every time.
I write for you, not for me. So why does it matter if I am enlightened?
Also, why should anyone ever be ashamed of being enlightened? And why should anyone be ashamed of not being enlightened? These hecklers seem to think they have to sniff out anyone speaking inappropriately about it in order to shut it down immediately. They’re the enlightenment police.
It’s as if enlightenment is such a taboo subject that it can’t possibly enter the expression of polite society. It’s like sex — something we only do in the privacy of our homes.
Is this right, though?
Enlightenment is for Everyone
Don’t worry what anyone thinks of your path. Enlightenment is not only for everyone but attaining it is also the duty of everyone.
There is no meaning or significance in a statement like “But you’re not enlightened” on this journey of life. Who cares if you aren’t? You’re going to be.
We all are going to be.
You are perfectly justified in your journey toward the light, wherever it takes you and however you behave while you’re on your way there. We must all learn our lessons, and some of them take us in directions that seem backward. To others, we look like we’re losing our minds or we’re nowhere near enlightenment — mainly because very few of us know what enlightenment looks and sounds like, so we have no point of reference.
The funniest thing is when someone tells me I am judgmental and that means I am not enlightened or even spiritual. A judgment of a judgment. The irony.
How do you know exactly what comes out of the mouth of enlightenment? Try finding it yourself and then it will become clear.
Haters Are on Their Path, and I’m on Mine
I believe that everyone is expressing themselves the best they can at the highest level of consciousness that they possibly can. All human beings are points of light in a universe of love. We are all struggling. Not a single one of us is free of the struggle.
I will never judge anyone for their point in a journey, for we are all learning. I merely offer guidance and statements of the way reality is right now — and the way it can be. And, of course, that is only from the point of view that I currently have.
So, when I write about reality and enlightenment, it is part of my path to convey these messages. It is truly my soul purpose. I am called to do it. I channel my written expression from my deepest heart of hearts so that you, my lovely readers, can find inspiration. These ideas may never reach you in any other way and I am honored to play this role on this planet.
I write because I feel like writing, I want to inspire, and I enjoy it. It is not to gain anything.
You’re on your path toward awareness, and I am on mine. None of us is perfect and that’s what makes life beautiful.
Yeah, I’m not Enlightened. Or am I?
At the end of the day, enlightenment has many meanings. People attach so many different connotations to this word. What is enlightenment, anyway?
I personally think there are levels of enlightenment, but sometimes I use this word to mean the ultimate oneness with God, the universe, or whatever you like to call it.
I’m not there. I can imagine what it’s like to be there, but I am not there. And I even go back and forth between the ideas that total oneness isn’t always the goal right now for me. Maybe sometimes I am on Earth to experience ego-based things as much as I can before I’m enlightened.
If you still want to drop a comment here to heckle me and tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I would love to hear from you. We all would.
