The universe just wants you to learn.
There is a lot of noise on the internet about twin flames and the need for coming into “physical union”, a cliché that refers to a harmonious romantic relationship with a twin flame. I take issue with this concept because I don’t think physical union is the goal of the twin flame journey.
People seem to attach themselves to things that don’t matter. It’s not the physical state that we should focus on. In this human life, all is an illusion. Let me explain.
Because of meeting my twin flame, I know to approach this entire experience with the idea that physical existence is temporary. When he died, it was clear that all of this life stuff goes by in the blink of an eye, and nothing physical lasts. This is all a play — an elaborate manifestation of the spiritual realm that helps us grow as souls.
The only thing that is real and lasting is what’s on the soul level. For instance, the lessons we learn about love stay forever. The grief that each of us experiences and the ways we survive through the heartaches are invaluable to the journey of humanity as a whole.
When I approach it all from a soul perspective instead of a physical one, a lot of things become clear — on the twin flame journey and in general.
Life Is an Illusion
People often insist adamantly that physical union is the point of twin flames. They are reaching for something outside themselves to fulfill their inner desires. They seek to possess something that is temporary, because all things in physical life have an expiration date. They will inevitably find disappointment in the end because it cannot be possessed indefinitely.
We’re all just playing roles here. This life is all an illusion. The “real” life is the one that remains unseen as we progress through human existence. It’s silly to overthink the twin flame journey, attach ourselves to outcomes, apply labels, or deny parts of it in the hopes that we can make the pain go away. Nothing outside you can solve the problems within you. It is merely a short-term distraction.
The obsession and pursuit of a physical union will be met with misery one day because all things end. People die, and relationships change. When a person finally gets physical union with their twin flame, they will quickly find that new problems arise — the fear of losing it may set in, for instance — and soon it will be obvious that physical union was not the solution to their problems. It was never the goal.
Soul Union vs. Physical Union
Soul union is the goal, and this can even be reached without physical union. It’s an inner state. It can be reached on your own within yourself.
In order to have inner union, you have to stop relying on another person for any type of fulfillment or happiness — even your twin flame. You can derive all of that from within you. You already have a close relationship with the divine — you don’t need to rely on anyone else for this connection.
You have a connection with your twin flame on the higher levels of consciousness, and you also possess a direct line to speak to God. This is the real union.
However, this may not be obvious — it may take an impactful spiritual experience to cause it to become clear. Sometimes it takes a twin flame to teach you this and to set you on a wild healing journey.
Difficult Lessons
The universe will take every chance it gets to teach you to love yourself and to evolve. If meeting your twin flame and then going through the pain of separation is going to push you to find a new way to exist, the universe will take that opportunity as a great lesson for you.
This is Soul University. The only goal is to learn. Twin flames exist as one of these graduate-level soul lessons that can’t be learned anywhere else in the universe!
A “happy ending” doesn’t always teach us anything valuable unless it’s reached through hardship. Only then will you value it. And the ending may be happier when you’ve reached a state of inner bliss and clarity than if you’d ended up in a marriage or relationship. That’s because physical union was never the reason for this twin flame journey — you could be with them and still be unhappy.
The real treasure is when you find the state of peace within that you were seeking all along.
