People keep telling me that I am “victim-blaming” by talking about the law of attraction, but they miss the point.
Sometimes I write about the law of attraction, and readers respond just to tell me how toxic and dangerous my teachings are. The law of attraction is basically the belief that the energy you put out into the world will attract similar energy, therefore you can transform your reality. How can this possibly be dangerous, you might ask?
Well, some people think that the law of attraction entails victim-blaming. If you accept that you have the ability to change your life at any time through a shift in mindset, energy, and pure thoughts, then you are accepting that you have attracted the bad things that happened to you. According to these readers — who are typically therapists — it is dangerous to accept that we have control over our destiny because victims of abuse or persecution find themselves in a spiritual conundrum. They don’t deserve pity anymore and they have to accept their past or something. It’s an interesting point, but I need to explain why it’s not victim-blaming to say that you attract the energy you put out.
But I call that karma.
What’s the problem with admitting that you’ve invited the difficult situations in your life in some way? It means that the flipside is also true: you get to turn it around! Plus, believing in a totally random universe starts to get damn depressing.
It helps you take ownership
The law of attraction allows us to own our actions and choices. I used to be in an abusive relationship, and now I see that I was inviting my partner’s behavior by losing my self-confidence. I was living in fear. I was operating in low vibrations, if you like that term. The lower I got, the more hopeless, the worse the abuse got. I had forgotten who I really was. I was allowing it. It was also wrong for him to act the way he did, but I certainly could have prevented this event in my life if I’d changed my mindset and walked away.
Sometimes we feel like there is no choice, but when we own our destinies, we see that we always have a choice in how to respond to situations.
If you claim ownership of your life and your energy, you will be happier. You will not be in the poverty mindset that attracts bad events. You will not be a victim of the world. Trust me, I was there, I’ve lived it. I thought the world was out to get me and I was doomed to be miserable.
But now? I know that even when “bad” things happen, they are a gift from the universe because I have the beautiful opportunity to learn from the experience. Also, when I stay in good energy, I see wonderful things begin to manifest. It’s really wild. You simply can’t begin to understand the law of attraction until you’ve lived it by practicing an abundance mindset.
Believing there’s no such thing is depressing
At university, I studied philosophy. I was strongly drawn to the study of metaphysics, a subset of modern philosophy, and it included the problem of freewill. There’s a solution to this problem called determinism, and it’s scary as hell. In a nutshell, it tells us that we have no control over what’s going on and we are slaves to our own psychological programming, our environment, and all the events leading up to now. Every event determined what happened next. Nothing is random and nothing is within our control, either.
If that doesn’t scare your pants off, I don’t know what will.
Luckily, it’s not the only solution. You and I know very well that we have freewill. Yes, dear reader: you are savvy. You can tell that there are choices.
We don’t have to accept that the world is totally pre-determined or that it’s random.
We can decide to embrace the idea that the world is fluid, and that our every action and thought that is part of the universe has a consequence in the universe, also known as karma. The universe isn’t meaningless and chaotic. The things that happen to you have a purpose.
We know this. And we know that we have choices because our minds aren’t our brains. Brains are a physical manifestation of our mind and spirit. We are originally pure consciousness. To our experience of life, the dissections and discoveries of the human brain doesn’t matter. Consciousness is a problem to neuroscience and psychology because, by empiricism only, it simply can’t be defined. But we experience it all of our lives intimately and we know that we have choices.
We have choices about what to think. About how to react. About what to do next. Our consciousness creates our experiences, and it is pure energy. When we choose to give out positive energy, the universe, which is also consciousness, responds. It’s that simple. And it’s not scary. It makes sense.
So, we have both cause and effect and choices.
There’s hope
Hope prevails. You have the ability at any moment to turn your life around, and you always did. Lots of people believe that the world is menacing and out to get you, and they’ve unfortunately programmed many others to believe that. But you don’t have to believe anything — that’s my point. The law of attraction isn’t dangerous because it entails your control over your own life. Isn’t that incredible?
Some of the trauma in your past is going to be tough to accept. I definitely don’t think children have invited hurtful events to their journeys, but I do think we’ve lived many lives. We carry our karma from life to life in our souls. So, if you experienced some terrible event in this life, it’s worth delving into what’s in there — in your soul. It’s worth asking yourself which lessons and takeaways you needed from every experience.
I can help you do that.
