I’ve discovered a new way to deal with the darkness within me. When I’m feeling down or catch myself having dark thoughts, I know I can change the state of my mind by sliding along a scale from one polarity to another. All I need to do is remember that every feeling has an opposite — another end of the spectrum. And each end of one spectrum is actually the same thing as its opposite, just a different level of intensity or vibration. Love and Hate are actually the same thing, as are Scarcity and Abundance, and Sadness and Happiness.

What does it mean to move along a scale from one polarity to the other? I use a visualization of a line between one end of the spectrum to the other. If I am feeling sad, I imagine increasing the vibration of that feeling to lift myself up and traveling along that line toward the higher, more light vibration: happiness. It’s almost like a thermometer that goes from a low temperature to a high one.

Imagine feeling fear because you can’t pay your bills. You feel stuck and panicked. Take that feeling and imagine its opposite: stability. Now imagine moving yourself along the line between these polarities toward stability, the more desirable place to be. Ride a wave that takes you smoothly from the darkness to the light.

The same can be done with sadness, confusion, anxiety, and any other human emotion that consumes us from time to time. It’s all about vibrations.

It’s simple. All you have to do is remember that your mind is totally within your own control and you can choose its vibration.

The Shades Between Darkness and Light

I’ve found that it’s difficult to simply say “Hey, I’m sad, let me just be happy now” and feel instant happiness. When I was grieving in 2022, I was in a dark place. People would tell me “It’s all about your mindset” when I would say negative and fear-based statements about how I am doomed and nothing will ever work out for me again. But I couldn’t simply tell myself to believe in abundance and miracles — I need an in-between state and a scale.

I needed to move toward the light again slowly by going through the shades that lie between the two opposite ends of the spectrum. There are many to experience. Life is not all-or-nothing; it’s a spectrum of feelings and thoughts. There are not only two polarities — there are many states of existence in between.

Move Gradually Up the Scale

We need stages. We need a buffer. There are not only two states — “happy” and “sad” — there are countless states in between these. You can’t jump easily from one polarity to the other. Two opposites contradict each other, therefore moving between them without paying attention to the in-between states is nearly impossible. You can’t ignore the middle vibrations.

So, move between the two polarities gradually and with intention. Acknowledge the darkness within as one end of the spectrum. Feel the vibration increasing. Feel yourself approaching the other end of the spectrum. Feel the light increase.

Practicing this in Real Life

I’ve been practicing this long enough now that when someone stresses me out, in the moment, I can choose not to get angry. I can choose not to have anxiety. I simply visualize myself moving up the scale toward calm and peace.

A mountain didn’t become so high in the blink of an eye. There was a gradual increase in its mass and size over time. What’s the difference between a grain of sand and a mountain? Nothing, except the quantity of grains of sand and the number of particles. They are the same thing, just different levels of the same scale. You can move between one end of an emotion and its opposite by giving yourself grains of light, one by one, until you have built yourself up to happiness again.

be kind to yourself and recognize that you don’t have to be so extreme and choose to exist in only one extreme polarity. There are many places to rest in-between.

Striking a Balance

Once you have done this often enough and your mind gets used to it, you are invincible. And with time, you might find that any polarity isn’t really desirable. Extremes are hard to maintain, even when they seem like a great place to exist.

Even pure happiness can be uncomfortable if it’s too intense. You can be drawn back toward the darkness when you realize how the world operates. Even when embodying a high vibration, you are able to recognize the dark side of existence. In this world of madness and pain, you may find yourself having to use this technique much too often in order to escape depression and hopelessness. So, you may find that being in the middle is preferable.

There is nothing better than a feeling of balance. Go between the polarities and then settle right in the center — where neither end is pulling you. You are unshakeable there. It may even feel better than being bathed in the lightest vibration. Balance is a beautiful thing.
