Twin flames aren’t supposed to be toxic. But that depends on your definition of the term “toxic”, of course. Some people have lower tolerances or stronger boundaries to inappropriate behavior than others. But generally, it is obvious whether someone is trying to hurt you or repeating harmful cycles they have no intention of ending. Twin flames generally don’t do this.
But I’ll admit, sometimes twin flame relationships are borderline toxic. It can be hard to discern the difference. After hearing many twin flame stories over the years, even I often question my core belief that twin flames are never toxic. I think there are sometimes exceptions to every twin flame “rule”.
The Mirror of Your Inner World
You may be wondering why you feel like your twin flame relationship is toxic. Firstly, we should consider mirroring. Often, your definition of “toxic” or the amount of energy you dedicate to thinking about toxicity in relationships is a direct reflection of your inner world. (Personally, I don’t dedicate a lot of brainpower to toxic relationships anymore.)
Furthermore, if twin flames are mirrors, then your twin flame may display a level of toxicity that matches your relationship with yourself. This may be hard to hear, but it’s the truth.
It’s From a Place of Hurt
Generally, twin flames don’t have ill intentions toward each other. Their avoidant or seemingly harmful behavior is all coming from a place of basic unworthiness, hurt, or fear. Some of these behaviors may seem borderline toxic, especially to people who don’t understand unconditional love. However, you always know how your twin flame really feels about you because it is an unspoken connection.
Their behavior sometimes does not match the level of connectedness you experience on the spiritual plane. You have to realize that you’re living in two realities at once.
Real Love Hurts
Unconditional love leaves you vulnerable to being hurt. So, twin flames can and do hurt each other. It’s the way love works. But a real twin flame relationship won’t hurt because of malicious intent. It’s usually because of a situation that can’t be helped or a state of deep fear.
When you look closer, you may realize that they are hurting themselves more than you. They likely have no real intention to cause you harm.
Real toxicity happens when one or both people in the relationship set out to hurt the other. It’s intentional. Sometimes it’s compulsive, but there’s a level of lucidity about it. There is no doubt that it is on purpose.
If there is true toxicity in the relationship, then I argue that it’s not a twin flame relationship. Twin flames aren’t supposed to feel toxic. Don’t stay in a relationship that’s harming you just because you think it’s a twin flame.
